Brown Bears out of Hibernation

The brown bears are now up from the long winter nap at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. They've lost quite a bit of weight after not eating much for several months. The bears are so much fun to watch, very smart and they know how to have fun. Click here to see the video. IMG_0348

New Website

Today we are launching a brand new website, the first major change since we opened in 2009. We hope you find the larger photos are more appealing. More are in the works, but its time to get this out to you. My sincere thanks to Ryan Smith at Websmith, LLC (www.websmithtx.com) for his patience and expertise in building this out and helping me to make several critical decisions.

2012 Iditarod Start in Anchorage

John and I went to downtown Anchorage to enjoy the ceremonial start of the 40th running of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. It was a bark-fest as Fourth Avenue and the side streets were lined with teams preparing to make their way to the starting line. Click here to have a listen. Sound of Iditarod 40

Matanuska Glacier

The experiences at the Matanuska Glacier are unparalleled. Every time I go, there is something different to experience. This time we shimmied through some cuts, entered into an ice cave and one of our guests tried to take a nap in a cravasse. The vastness of the space is indescribable. It needs to be experienced. By the way, that’s me, Susan, in the blue coat loving every minute of it. Take a look on Facebook for more of this adventure to see the images I saw in the ice on this trip, including a meditating monk.
