FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will there be a lot of walking?

The tour will only require at maximum 10 minutes of walking across several stops. At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center we are able to pull up to the enclosures and guests can see many animals through the large windows. Other times our guests choose to walk and stretch their legs so they can get closer to view the animals. The van is always available. In case of inclement weather, it’s always possible to jump in and out of the van.

Can you accommodate guests with limited mobility?

We have and are able to successfully accommodate guests with reduced mobility and/or who require many assistance walking (walkers, canes, etc.). However, our fleet is not equipped to accommodate those who are wheelchair-bound. Please note that some of the stops along the tour are not paved.

What kinds of animals will we see

The AWCC is home to a large variety of brown bear, black bear, moose, caribou, wolves, musk ox, lynx, and wood bison. You might see many or most of these when you visit.

What's the weather like? What should I wear?

Expect temperatures ranging from the mid 50’s to the mid 70’s F (10 - 25 C), or warmer. Dress in layers and always prepare for rain and wind. There is plenty of room in our vans to bring an extra jacket and hat. It’s always advisable to wear sunglasses and bring along sunscreen and insect repellent.
